A Proud Rural Democrat
And SD-18 Committeeman
I have run for local and statewide office five times. It was not easy. But it was not about me for I knew my opportunity to win in my rural, heavily Republican-oriented district was limited. But I also knew that by running and increasing local voter turnout, Democratic candidates above county-level had a much better opportunity to win. That can happen if we increase Democratic voter turnout in rural counties by at least 10 percentage points. Local candidates can do that best. And that is what we need.
Even though I am no longer headlining partisan races, I continue the work I've been doing with rural counties and Senate District 18 (SD-18) for 15+ years. In addition to representing SD-18 on the Texas Democratic Party's State Executive Committee (SDEC), I also work with Democratic Party county chairs, candidates, and clubs/organizations in organizing, training, and executing community outreach strategies. Why? Because outreach efforts involve reaching out to voters year round, not just during an upcoming election cycle.
